THERE was a big boost for a Malvern charity as local musicians handed over the spoils of their festive fundraising efforts.

Homestart Malvern Hills is now better off to the tune of £800 thanks to the support of members of the Malvern Chase Community Brass Band.

The 35-strong band gave no fewer than 13 performances in the run-up to Christmas and voted that the proceeds should go to Home-Start, which supports families with children under five.

After receiving a cheque from the band, Home-Start Malvern Hills scheme manager Jess Bird said: “We are very grateful to the band for choosing us to benefit from their hard work this year.

“Their impressive calendar of public performances, often outside in the cold weather, is very much appreciated and the band members can rest assured that the money they raised will play an important role in the recruitment and placement of volunteers with families in need of our support in the local area.”

Anyone who would like to find out more about Home-Start, or is interested in becoming a volunteer or trustee, should visit homestart.

Malvern Chase Brass Band is always looking for new members.

The meetings take place at the Chase School in Geraldine Road, at 6.30pm on Mondays and instruments and basic tuition can be provided.
