Tubb in busy schedule

8:40am Monday 26th July 2010

THE captain of The Worcestershire Club, Michael Tubb, has been kept busy overseeing important events.

The first was his charity day and thanks to the generosity of many sponsors, members who donated prizes and the participating teams of four players a sum of £4,500 was raised in support of three charities, The Motor Neurone Association, the Malvern Hospital Appeal Fund and the Worcestershire Breast Cancer Unit Campaign.

The event was both successful and enjoyable and the captain wishes to express his gratitude to all those who contributed so generously.

Tubb was on duty to present the De Vere Open prizes.

The winners were club members Paul Bellamy and John Pilgrim, who scored 43 points, in a better-ball stableford.

The best gross prize also went to club members, Neil and Jason Allies, who are both single-figure handicappers.

The captain’s day has become two days to accommodate five-day members and ladies. The captain’s prize, a venerable golf club which remains on display in the clubhouse, was won by David Baker (4) with 34 gross points.

Other prizes went to Nick Smith (7), 40 points in division one; Clive Taylor (14), 37 in division two and Peter Bellamy (24), 40 in division three.

John Davies (12) won the men's Friday competition with 40 points and Corinne Mills the ladies’ Friday comptition.

With just a few days of less golf activity this week, Tubb has just time to pack his cases, round up his party of 34 golfers and fly off to America for the biennial match with Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

They will do well to return with the Malvern Bowl, first played for between these two clubs in 1988.
