McCarthy expected to return for Casuals test
9:00pm Friday 3rd February 2012
BROMYARD Town hope to have experienced defender Gareth McCarthy back for Saturday’s home clash with Wolverhampton Casuals (3pm).
The West Midlands League Premier Division strugglers are also banking on the return of several players who were injured for the 3-0 defeat at Wednesfield.
The hosts completed the double over an under-strength Town after a scrappy first-half on a heavy pitch.
On 40 minutes, Bromyard had a great chance to take the lead when Ben Evans fed the ball through to Knile Taylor.
He was taken down in the box by home keeper Sam Arnold, who was lucky to remain on the field but then redeemed himself by saving Jamie Saunston’s spot-kick.
It proved to be a costly miss for Bromyard as the home side upped the pace with two quick goals by Lee Butler and Ben Sanderson early in the second period. Bromyard were forced to make changes as the conditions took their toll and skipper Joe Wood saw his effort cleared off the line.
Wednesfield regained their composure and sealed the points with a close-range shot from Tommy McCrystal.
